All our meals are freshly prepared by award winning outside caterer, Slice of Pie.
"Slice of Pie Ltd, is an Educational food provider located in Aldershot Hampshire.
In January 2014 ‘Slice of Pie’ was created and the sole purpose of this company is to provide nutritious food for children.
For a long time we have known that providing nutritious healthy food for children is not a piece of cake! It takes a childcare setting time and money to find a chef with the right skills and experience that can support the transition in offering healthy alternatives and well-balanced menus. Once you have found that chef you then have to ensure that your building can facilitate a professional kitchen, something that can be hard to do with a lot of buildings having space restrictions or shared facilities.
Slice of Pie deliver ready to eat hot food and provides educational settings with the opportunity to develop their healthy eating ethos and suitable food to the children in their care without the worry of covering the chef’s time off or providing suitable kitchen facilities. All our meals, including our puddings, are developed to be balanced and nutritious as well as containing the child’s 5-a-day requirement. There is no added salt or sugar in any of our recipes. We don’t just supply the food to the settings we also offer information about developing their meal time experience through self-service, child choice and cooking.
We pride ourselves on the fact that no processed or pre-prepared food is served, everything is prepared from scratch. For example, when the children have fish fingers, we chop whole pieces of fish and crumb in natural bread crumbs and oven bake. We make our and baked beans from scratch and have even sourced hoop shaped pasta to make our own spaghetti hoops, no canned food! Sausages are made in house; so, we know exactly what is going into them. Our kitchen bakes all breads such as picnic rolls, focaccia’s and bagels to accompany meals.
All menus are planned with children in mind and feedback received from them is considered. We are careful to plan for individual needs where required and work with the settings to ensure a healthy alternative menu. Menus are planned to rotate over a four-week cycle and we pride ourselves on always having a vegetarian / special dietary requirement option available.
Our experienced chef team - led by Tris Strover - have won 4 national industry awards for their creativity and attention to detail with regards to the meals they create and produce, ensure the meals are perfect for the Educational sector. Our kitchens are assessed directly by a dedicated Environmental Health officer, as due to our field of operation, we have to be a Certified company – meaning food, water and waste samples all need to be analysed to ensure are kitchens are meticulously clean and hygienic, as opposed to the usual lower 1-5 Score on the Doors rating.
Slice of Pie are passionate about what we do and are happy to discuss your child’s dietary requirements should the need arise – please ask a staff member to put us in contact with you.
Finally, Slice of Pie is delighted to be offering our services to help provide balanced and nutritious meals for your children."
